ROGER SLIFER UPDATE, August 16, 2012
Some brief good news and progress in the matter of comic book writer, editor and colorist Roger Slifer:
On August 12, 2012, Roger was removed from his ventilator and has been breathing on his own for the first time since he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Santa Monica, Calif., on June 23.
There are mixed results on responsiveness. He opens his eyes sometimes, and is occasionally responsive to touch.
Roger was moved to Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles on July 27, specifically to deal with the respiratory issues. The hope was when he was moved there, that he’d be able to breathe on his own in 3-6 weeks. Roger did so in about three weeks, so he’s at the leading edge of that curve!
The hope is now that in 3-6 months, he could be ready for rehab.
Police still have not located a suspect, but are on the lookout for a white 4-door sedan with a sunroof. Anyone with information can call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8495.
